Cairns was the highlight of our 10-day trip to Australia.
Cairns was the highlight of our 10-day trip to Australia. We loved the beautiful natural beauty it offers and the convenience as a base point to snorkel at the Great Barrier Reef, ride the gondola to Kuranda Village and hike Daintree Rainforest. Mossman Gorge and the gondola stop within the Daintree Rainforest is jaw-dropping when you see the trees, plants and fauna.
Park rangers, hotel staff, and even shuttle bus drivers were very friendly and accommodating, especially the people at Visions Apartment on the esplanade. There were lots of restaurants and shopping around the esplanade. Lots of activities for multi-generational group of ours.
We rented a car last minute from a local family-run rental, who brought the car to our hotel. Very friendly and convenient! We were a bit nervous driving on the left side of the road, but turned out to be an easy drive to Mossman Gorge and Port Douglas. We hiked the well-marked trails and learned about the local Aborigines culture in Mossman then stopped in Port Douglas to see wild cockatoos, fox bats and had great ice cream in the small town. We loved everything about Cairns and even though there were rain storms during our trip in May, it was a nature-lovers dream!

Cairns is a fantastic little city that is a gateway to some of Australia's beautiful natural sights. There are many tours on offer from Cairns to see the Daintree Rainforest or the Great Barrier Reef. The nightlife is good and there are plenty of restaurants and bars to refuel after big days of activities.

Cairns is both a hub of activity and a gateway to adventures within a few hours of travel.
It has an ambient climate with all the services and culture you’d expect of a much bigger city. There is so much to do in cairns and the public transport system is both convenient and well run.
There are so many adventures to be had on the Great Barrier Reef, Green Island and Fitzroy Island. Mission Beach, The Atherton Tablelands and The Daintree are all a day trip from Cairns.

Positive: Skyrail and historic train, nature, pool in Cairns, boardwalk, Botanical Gardens (absolute highlight!!!). Don't miss Emerald Creek Ice Creamery - lots of varieties and very yummy! Dundee's restaurant offered outstanding food and an incredible venue with a massive fish tank to look at while dining, it's pricey, but worth it. The Daintree is as exciting as ever. Solar Whisper Croc Cruise was really good. Daytrip to Atherton Tablelands was lovely. Rusty's market is a must! Only downside of Cairns: dining is fairly expensive in general.

We went at the start of the dry season.
We went at the start of the dry season. The weather was very warm but still humid.
Cairns central has great public facilities.
The swimming lagoon is fantastic for all ages and has surf lifesavers in attendance. BBQ cookers all along the Esplanade, excellent playgrounds.
Muddy Waters in particular, the kids went crazy.
Of course you go for the reef trips and the train trip and the Skyrail up to Kuranda village. A lovely day out in beautiful rainforest.
Port Douglas and Mossman are a drive north if you have the time, they are another must see in this scenic part of north Queensland.
A drive up onto the Tablelands opens up a different part of the area. Natural and historical attractions. It's worth the drive.
The location was a 10 minute walk from the Esplanade, 15 minutes from Cairns Central Shopping Centre. A retro 50's property, basic , clean, with a pool. The kitchen in my apartment had a big fridge, microwave, a full gas oven, pots and pans, all crockery and cutlery etc. air con, comfortable beds and pillows, it was super clean and was serviced weekly. I stayed 3 weeks. Cheap and cheerful with the most welcoming managers, Connie and Carmelo who went out of their way to make my stay a memorable one.
Superb room and bathroom, all modern, well maintained and clean, hotel is right next to the marina and the lagoon / esplanade
But highlight is undoubtedly the friendly family team running the hotel. The manager Peter couldn’t have done any more to make my stay more enjoyable - from a fuss-free early check-in, to booking all my planned activities for me (at a discount - including a scuba trip to the Great Barrier Reef).
Thanks again for a fantastic stay - nowhere else I would book in Cairns.
Exceptional Staff, that can not do enough to help you. If needed.
The hotel is old and this is clearly evident in the carpet staining through out the hall ways.
Bedrooms are old too, but there is a very clear difference between old and shabby, then old but loved and well maintained.
The latter here in this case.
Beds very lovely and huge. Rolled freely all night. Ha Ha!
Great location to the Esplanade, bars, restaurants, everything!
The location to central Cairns is great! Very easy to get around. We had a double pram so that comes with all its own issues. The hotel was very easy to get to from the airport and was really cheap in a taxi ($25 AUD). Muddy's playground and cafe is a short 3 minute walk and is fantastic for little kids. Goose Cafe up the road in the opposite direction is the best coffee and breakfast in Cairns. we loved it!
On the Esplanade and overlooking the (free) public swimming pool, small public park between hotel and seafront proper. Handy balcony (for all guests but not at all busy) next to our room. Great view from the rooftop bar. Walking distance to everything in Cairns proper. Sockets (USB & proper) near the bed. Staff were very understanding when we needed to leave a day early because of an approaching cyclone.
Good location for walking to the Esplanade and some good restaurants. The rooms were clean but also lacked character. There were no gardens visible. The hotel is just on a fairly busy street but gets quiet at night. The locked off street parking that was included was great. Pool was nice but on a busy street corner right outside the pool.
Massive 2 bedroom apartment - lots of room, very comfortable for a family stay. Great self contained accommodation, full kitchen and full size fridge. Good location, 5 min drive to the City, opposite the Esplanade/Beach and next to the hospital. Secure parking for a vehicle, bus stop at the entrance. Nice swimming pool/spa and sauna.
Stayed here twice, no frills hotel very close to Cairns CBD, only 8 minutes to night market and many food oulets. 3 minutes to Esplanade and nearest bus stop. Comfortable bed, good shower, very quiet, has a desk & chair for laptop work etc., has a mini kitchen and coffee making. Everything I needed. Highly recommended value for money.
Our experience at Pacific Hotel was truly delightful. I specifically selected this hotel based on its excellent value and prime location, and it certainly lived up to our expectations. The proximity to Cairns allowed us to easily explore the vibrant surroundings and fully indulge in everything the city had to offer.
Simple hotel but with a nice vibe. The staff were friendly and helpful. The restaurant, which is part of the hotel, is very good and definitely worth a visit.
Not a negative, but in case important to people, the location is about a 20-minute walk from the Esplanade and the more buzzy areas of Cairns.
Communication was very good. the staff were helpful and friendly and and couldn't do enough for us. we realised that they were short staffed and accepted the fact the cleaners will only be attending every 4th day which suited us. the location was great for both the airport and the city of Cairns.
My room overlooked the water and the esplanade walk. There was a lovely balcony with chairs and a table to relax and enjoy the view. There were several good restaurants connected to the building. The bed was comfy. The shower was really great. The hotel is close to everything.
The Manager, Peter, was extremely welcoming and made you feel as if you were visiting family and not just staying in a hotel. His easy going, but informative, style made for a pleasant stay in Cairns.
Location is perfect near the Esplanade, restaurants, and reef boats.
Beautiful apartment with a fantastic view. So spacious. Had everything we needed.
The location is excellent to restaurants and the marina. A wonderful alternative to a typical hotel room.
Great location right near the Esplanade. The room was very clean and comfortable and we really appreciated the Nespresso machine. Would definitely recommend for a stay in Cairns.
The location of the hotel with easy access to The Cairns Esplanade and the location of the room on the Garden (2nd) Floor with pool and BBQ area. Off street car parking.
Older style apartments located a distance away from the esplanade and the city centre. Unit was clean and reasonably comfortable. Manager was friendly and helpful.
